The year 2015 in Champagne was marked by heat and drought never seen before. The drought started from late May, and heat waves occurred from June till mid-August. The resulting water deficit significantly slowed down the development of the grape clusters. Fortunately, rainfalls in the second half of August allowed the berries to grow, and the sunshine in late August ensured rapid maturation in the best conditions. The harvest started late August, and the maximum legal yield of 10,000 kg per hectare was reached throughout the region.

Tasting Notes by our Cellar Master

Eyes: Satin yellow color with green hues. Dynamic yet regular effervescence. Generous and creamy mousse, stabilizing in a fine bubble bead.

Nose: The aromas are particularly delicate and full of finesse. The dominant olfactory profile is toasted and roasted first, with notes of baked citrus and exotic fruits, hints of smoky herb and peat, and a wonderful spiced salinity. Then it evolves towards mineral and minty notes of bergamot and ripe wheat. Despite its almost 60 months of cellar maturation, the wine remains exceptionally fresh and invigorating.

Palate: Initially the wine is particularly delicate, almost restrained. A nice freshness to please the palate at first sip, with notes of candied citrus fruits such as orange and tangerine. The effervescence, soothed by the long cellar maturation on lees, is particularly indulging. The extra brut dosage provides both a clean style and a generous energy typical of chardonnay. The ardor of youth is still present, as the wine is only entering its phase of maturity which reveals its remarkable aging potential.

Eyes: Yellow color with golden hues. Beautiful effervescence. Fine mousse that stabilizes in a thin, tight bead.

Nose: Fairly smoky first, with hints of soot and hot ashes. Delicate notes of biscuit and meringue quickly take over with aromas of fresh hazelnut and almond. The olfactory expression is rather airy, elevated and of great finesse. The chardonnay identity is obvious.

Palate: Very invigorating, with flavors of candied citrus fruits such as blood orange and mandarin in an elegant praline reduction. Then comes the wine complexity with combining ripe wheat and candied fruits. The finish is dense, fleshy, with a generous structure, and a real opulence. The limited dosage perfectly enhances the wine.

Eyes: Golden yellow color with satiny reflections. The mousse is generous and abundant when served. The effervescence is dynamic and the bead of foam is creamy.

Nose: Wild and peaty notes of moss, undergrowth and truffle come up first. The wine then opens with aromas of fruit in syrup, pear eau-de-vie, quince jelly and mixed raspberries. The wine is incredibly rich in aromas.

Palate: The wine is easy at first, expressing exotic fruits and roasted exotic fruits. Then, with white pepper and clove, the profile evolves into a spicier domain with notes of garrigue and tobacco. This is very unique for chardonnay. Kernel, almond and gingerbread dominate the everlasting finish.

ROSÉ
ASSEMBLAGE
PREMIER CRU

Eyes: Beautiful light apricot color. The effervescence is dynamic and sustained. Once stabilized, the bead of foam is abundant and generous.

Nose: Aromas of violet, English candies and bulb plants such as hyacinth first. Then we enter the olfactory universe of the confectioner. Marshmallow, cotton candy, almond paste and orange blossom are the most prominent descriptors. After a few minutes of airing, aromas of fruit stone and cherries in eau-de-vie take the center stage.

Palate: The wine’s evolution in the mouth keeps the promises of the nose. The pinot meunier grape is particularly discreet at the beginning, but then opens up on the palate till the finish. Decadent aromas of cherries and fruit jellies punctuate the tasting.
